Salt Water Chlorinator Installation Overview:

Installing a salt water chlorinator is an interesting DIY project which just requires a bit of elbow grease and familiarity with some basic tools.

For NEW salt water chlorinator installations:

  • Raise the salt levels in your pool to the recommended levels and allow to circulate for at least 8 hours. Don’t forget to balance your water.
  • Turn off all power to your pool and close off any valves after your pump.
  • Measure off area for salt cell installation with included template.
  • Measure again.
  • With a hand saw, cut off area, smooth the edges with sandpaper and attach the included unions and plumbing accessories.
  • Mount the power box / control box on the wall and attach all of the wires and leads as per the user manual.
  • Open up all the valves and turn on the pump to allow water to enter the cell. Turn on your power box / control box and apply any settings as required.

For more information on converting your regular pool to a salt water pool, you can check out our extensive guide here. (Don’t worry, it will open in a new window)

For REPLACEMENT salt water chlorinator installations:

  • Turn off all power to your pool and close off any valves after your pump.
  • Measure off area for salt cell installation with included template. If your new salt cell is shorter than your current salt cell, you may need to install new pipes from your pump or heater.
  • If your new salt cell is longer than your current one, then no problem, simply measure again.
  • With a hand saw, cut off area, smooth the edges with sandpaper and attach the included unions and plumbing accessories.
  • Remove the old power box / control box.
  • Mount the power box / control box on the wall and attach all of the wires and leads as per the user manual.
  • Open up all the valves and turn on the pump to allow water to enter the cell. Turn on your power box / control box and apply any settings as required.
